The new artistic period of the K.O.Th. begins impressively with one of the leading and most influential musicians of our time, Maxim Vengerov, who takes the stage with his famous Stradivari “Kreutzer” (1727) violin, together with a distinguished Greek pianist who excels abroad, Theodosia Dokou, as well as the great Hungarian Péter Somodari, first cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic, in the highly demanding ‘Triple Concerto’ by Beethoven, under the musical direction of the renowned Greek conductor Michalis Economou.
Grammy Award-winning Maxim Vengerov is one of the leading living violinists of our time, with his impeccable technique and deep sound that literally captivates the listener, while he also enjoys international recognition as a conductor and pedagogue. A student and collaborator of the legendary Mstislav Rostropovich for 17 years, he faithfully follows the virginal advice of his mentor during their first meeting: “when you interpret a musical work, the most important thing is what you think about while playing it.”
The program concludes with one of the most important symphonic works of the 20th century, Shostakovich’s popular ‘10th Symphony’, a masterpiece of rare beauty with an enormous emotional range, which fascinates from beginning to end.
These two leading composers are closely linked through their timeless messages and the universal character of their works, since they expressed the deepest humanistic ideals with their music and resisted all kinds of oppression and authoritarianism, praising freedom and the brotherhood of people.
